Shrines of France
Lourdes – Avignon – Ars-Sur-Formans
Early departure after breakfast. Drive by Toulouse, Carcassonne, with its walled fortress, Nîmes, with its Arena dating back to the roman times, and Avignon. This quaint city has been for a period the City of the Popes, when they were forced to abandon Rome and live in France under the rules of the French Kings. At that time France was just a geographical expression, not a State. If there is sufficient time, we shall drive by the Pope’s Residence, the Cathedral of Avignon, Notre Dame des Doms, dating back to the 12th Century, and the famous Church of Saint Peter, built in the flaming gothic style in 1512, and its gates added in the 1551.
Departing Avignon, we shall take the French Highway leading to Lyon. Just thereafter we deviate on to a farm & country small road to arrive, late afternoon, in ARS-SUR-FORMANS, a tiny hamlet.
Arrive at your hotel in Ars or any village in its immediate vicinity. Get installed. Dinner and accommodation.
